Bringing the innovation of molecular genetic testing to enhance patient care
Molecular Genetic Testing
Genetic testing involves the analysis of DNA to detect genetic variations related to an individual’s health. The information from such tests can be used in multiple areas of patient care, including: routine health assessments (STI/WH), disease risk assessments (ICGx), carrier testing, and optimization of drug treatments (PGx).
Through molecular pathology testing, health care professionals can practice precision medicine by incorporating an individual’s genetic profile to customize medical care. LifeBrite aids this process by providing reliable laboratory testing services. We utilize state-of-the-art equipment and genetic assays that are extensively validated in-house. Additionally, our staff is highly trained and qualified to deliver accurate test results. Molecular pathology is an emerging field, so we encourage you to contact us regarding any questions you may have.
Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008
The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA) makes it illegal for health insurers to request or use one’s genetic information to deny health insurance, or to alter how much one pays for health insurance. It prevents the use of your genetic information to determine if a condition is considered pre-existing. Furthermore, GINA protects individuals from genetic discrimination by employers.
GINA does not apply to life, long-term care, or disability insurance. Because of this, residents of some states may be asked to disclose their genetic information. Different states have extended protection to cover other forms of insurance.
More information about GINA can be found on GINAhelp.org or through your state insurance commissioner’s office.
